Rom - Spaceknight

Another Weekly Sketch Challenge entry over at Ten Ton Studios [link]

In the event you don't know, this is the Spaceknight Rom. As a kid I was a huge, huge fan of the comic, simply because I loved how cool he looked. I loved the mask and ominous glowing eyes, and the chrome armor was just awesome. I recall the first Rom comic I begged by Mom to purchase for me at a grocery store in the town where I grew up. It was issue #7, the one with all the "Day of the Triffids" knock-offs on the cover. I was next able to get her to buy issue #12 for me, the one with Jack of Hearts. I LOVED that comic. I still think Jack of Hearts' design was very cool. In all, that issue is another great example of the staple of superhero comics--the misconceptions and misunderstandings that lead to knock-down-drag-out battles. On one of my many stays in the hospital as a boy, my Dad bought Rom Annual #2 for me (he regularly bought comics for me while I was in the hospital--which made things SO much better and probably did more than a little to fuel my interest in comics). I still love that cover.

So, yes, I am a fan of Rom and hope it shows in this work.
