Yet another sketch challenge piece. I won with this entry. I actually timed myself on this one, to try and see where I could increase my speed. I think gathering reference and doing the very rough rendering took me thirty-five minutes. The inking took probaby five hours (I hate inking), and the marker toning took no more than an hour. I did learn some things on this piece. Namely, I learned I don't like inking from rough pencil renderings...it just takes too long. So I've started working with larger pencils (0.7 mm), going crazy with light sketching, erasing slightly with a kneaded eraser, then going over everything with a 0.3 mm pencil (actually, I've found a heavier pencil, like the Koh-I-Noor brand, for instance, is better for rendering in the final stage). I also learned, or rather recalled just how much I loved dinosaurs as a boy. When I was in probably Kindergarten, I had this incredible dinosaur pop-up book with beautifually rendered images. They don't make enough pop-up books anymore, and I certainly don't draw enough dinosaurs.
As usual, pencil, ink, and markers (with a little white ink for the highlights on the Cadillac.)
wow, AMAZING WORK. The dino's details are what really captures my attention-most especially, the spit! The Cadillac's paint is also definitely stunning. I'm still in awe..
GREAT WORK!!! I like Dinos too, but this makes me think of my favorite Atreyu song, Dinosaurs Became Extinct. Now I want to listen to that. Great Job!!
God this brings back memories for me, i used to love playing Cadillacs and Dinosaurs in the arcades it was such a cool game, the comics were ace too. This is a stunning piece, the red and the shadows on the cadillac look awesome and make it almost pop out.

Thanks SO much, man! You know, I've never had the chance to play the game or read the comics, but Mark Schultz's art from the comics is just stunning. I think he's such a great artist. I'm really glad this piece brought back some good memories. And thanks very much for your thoughts on the car. I went back and forth, wondering if I went too far. But I'm really glad you think it works. Thanks,
Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
