Batman 2.0 Costume Redesign

Description

This was a piece I did for the Batman 2.0 Costume Redesign contest at Project Rooftop [link] Because of some of the other stuff I'm working on, I got in on this way late, but managed to put together something fairly quickly. This has to be the fastest I've ever colored a piece (and unfortunately, I think it shows). In any case, a fun thing to work on, and a good excuse to brush up on my coloring.

Here's my text for my reasoning behind the design choices I made:

For the purposes of this design, I assumed Dick Grayson would be taking on the role of Batman. Bearing this in mind, I removed the utility belt from the waist, thus giving him greater flexibility for his acrobatic movement. I placed all the utility belt compartments down both his arms, in his gauntlets, and at the top of his boots. The fins on his gauntlets are hard and sharp and in addition to serving as a weapon, are designed to hook melee weapons for the quick disarming of opponents. Everything about this costume should speak to Dick’s personal fighting style, which is much more acrobatic than Batman’s. Thus, I have less body armor and general weight to the costume (much like Nightwing’s current costume). The cape is also unique in that it is designed to be less restrictive and flowing. By attaching at the wrist and elbow, the cape does a better job of staying out of the way and not impeding his movement. Additionally, because of the size difference between Bruce and Dick, I’ve made the emblem on his chest significantly larger, to create the illusion of greater area to the chest surface. Further, the compartments down his arms add width to his frame, also making him appear larger.

Thanks for looking,
